In 2011 a personal challenge called the 40 Bags in 40 Days Decluttering Challenge was introduced to the world by a blogger as a way to keep her closet tidy. Since then, other DIY and home improvement bloggers have tackled it, cleaning out their closet while making a difference. This year, Families Helping Families of Iowa is excited to encourage YOU to be part of the 2017 challenge.
What is 40 Bags in 40 Days?
40 Bags in 40 Days is where you declutter one area of your home every day. The goal is to get rid of one bag every single day. There will be some days you may have more, other may be less. The end goal is to declutter your home and start fresh.
When does the challenge start?
The challenge starts March 1 and ends April 15.
Donate your treasures to Families Helping Families
At Families Helping Families we’re always looking for new or gently used clothing for infants, children and teens. As you work to declutter your closet or kids’ rooms, you can donate those items to FHF. Your donated items will go to help a child in foster care, relative placement or other approved placements.
The items FHF is not currently in need of can be dropped off at Stuff Etc and placed under Families Helping Families name. This can include larger furniture items.
Keep an eye out for high-level needs
As you start the 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge, be on the lookout for the following items that are high-level needs for FHF. If you find them, drop them off Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please note we are not accepting donations from 2/27/17-3/9/17 as we switch clothing and complete spring cleaning.
- New or gently used pants, skinny and straight-leg jeans, khakis for all ages and sizes
- Long and short sleeve shirts for all ages and sizes
- Like new shoes in any size
- Nightgowns and pajamas of all sizes
- New undergarments (underwear, sports bras)
Are you up for the challenge? 40 Bags in 40 Days gives your home a fresh start and takes spring cleaning to a whole new level, all while helping a child in need. Learn more about the Families Helping Families of Iowa Clothing Closet and lists of acceptable donations on our website.
