Families Helping Families of Iowa has been off to a great 2016, and we have so much more in store for the families and children we support through our mission.
Celebrating the season of giving
In December, we hosted our annual Christmas Party, with hundreds of area children of all ages coming to Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids to enjoy the festivities. From Santa to our Hy-Vee provided food and games, a cake walk and tours of local firetrucks and ambulances, kids and families alike had a great time. We also had a great turnout from volunteers, who helped set up for the event and take care of our guests the next day.
Our Christmas Party is an exciting time for celebrating the holidays, and each child gets to pick out presents, all which were generously donated by local organizations, businesses and individuals.
We’d like to thank everyone who was involved in this year’s Christmas Party including Hy-Vee, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department and Ambulance Services, Two Men and a Truck, Hawkeye Downs and all the businesses who helped make the event such a success and continue to support it year after year. Can’t wait for Christmas Party 2016!

Volunteers ramp up
We also hosted our first Volunteer Basics session at our Families Helping Families office on January 23. We opened our doors to anyone interested in volunteering with our organization, offering a tour and information on our mission and purpose. We had a great turnout, and wonderful treats provided by Kathy’s Pies.
We had such a great turnout, we’re hosting another event on March 19! Volunteers are the backbone of Families Helping Families, from operating our Clothing Close and School Supplies Closet to hosting many of our annual events and supporting the Back to School Rally.
